eBIRForms on a Mac: How to File Your 1701Q Without Windows

3 min read

Short answer: there is no Mac version of eBIRForms. The BIR's return-filling software is a Windows program, and you can't fill out a 1701Q on the BIR's website. If you're on a MacBook, you have three realistic options.

How eBIRForms actually works

According to the BIR's eBIRForms page, eBIRForms has two parts:

  • The Offline eBIRForms Package, a program you download and install to fill out your return. It's built for Windows, and there's no official Mac version.
  • The Online eBIRForms System, which receives the return you submit from the package. It's where the return goes, not a place to fill it out.

So the filling-out step needs Windows. Other BIR portals don't replace it: ORUS is for registration and updating your details, and eFPS is mainly for taxpayers the BIR requires to use it, not a typical freelancer.

Your options on a Mac

1. Use any Windows computer

Borrow a Windows laptop, or use one at work or a computer shop. The filing part is short if your numbers are already done: install the package, set up your profile, type in the figures, then Validate and Submit. Our 1701Q step-by-step guide walks you through it.

2. Run Windows on your Mac

Some Mac users run the package inside Windows on their Mac, using a virtual machine. The BIR doesn't support this officially, and how well it works depends on your Mac and setup. If you already have Windows on your Mac, it's worth a try.

3. Have someone file it for you

The BIR's online system lets tax agents file on behalf of their clients. With the RaketTax VIP Concierge, you approve your return in RaketTax and a partner bookkeeper who is an Accredited Tax Agent (ATA) files it with the BIR for you, then uploads the BIR's confirmation to your dashboard. No Windows needed on your side.

Where RaketTax fits

RaketTax runs in your browser, so it works the same on a Mac, a PC or your phone. You log what your clients paid you, and it applies the ₱250,000 exemption, computes your 8% tax and pre-fills your 1701Q or 1701A. That leaves only the final filing step, and you choose how to do it: on a Windows computer yourself, or through the VIP Concierge. Tracking your income is free.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an eBIRForms for Mac?

No. The offline eBIRForms package is a Windows program, and the BIR doesn't offer a Mac version.

Can I file my 1701Q on the BIR website instead?

Not by filling it out there. The Online eBIRForms System receives returns submitted from the offline package; it isn't a form you fill out in the browser.

Can someone else file my 1701Q for me?

Yes. The BIR's online system allows tax agents to file on behalf of their clients. RaketTax's VIP Concierge does this through partner bookkeepers who are Accredited Tax Agents.

Do I still need to pay separately?

Yes. Filing and paying are separate steps. If you owe tax, pay through GCash, Maya, an online bank or an Authorized Agent Bank (how to pay).
